Mapping one of my very favourite places on Earth: Svalbard. I once visited Longyearbyen back in 2024 to run the Spitsbergen Half Marathon. It was a very unique experience in that it’s the only race I know of that has armed polar bear guards along the route. For the rest of my trip, I got a glimpse of the Arctic sea ice along its fjords and fascinating wildlife. This map is a tribute to Svalbard’s rugged and icy terrain, created using ArcticDEM mosaics of its contours in 35-meter resolution.
